Event manuals with a difference for Goodwood’s prestigious Festival of Speed and Revival motoring events.
Goodwood vetted dozens of digital agencies in the South East before picking us to help their client services team create revolutionary digital manuals for their Festival of Speed and Revival motoring events.
From the start we knew that Goodwood needed a bespoke piece of software. They had been using a tired, off-the-shelf solution for some time, which fell short in a number of key areas. And as one of the most prestigious events companies on the planet, we knew that the same meticulous attention to detail they put into their events needed to be transferred to their event manuals.
The manuals themselves are used by all official Goodwood Partners – suppliers, sponsors and show exhibitors – and act as a detailed guide for each event. They contain all key health and safety and build up/break down information, deadlines, supplier details, maps and plans and really are a key part of what makes the organisation of Goodwood events so awe-inspiring around the world.
We developed a branded and easy to use web-based system that allows Goodwood staff to manage the handbooks themselves. From the initial launch of the Festival of Speed manual in 2015, Goodwood have been managing content, inviting all partners and collecting form responses themselves.
The system itself required some complex development work, including a nomination system that allows partners to nominate up to ten ‘account owners’. This could be staff or agencies that need access on their behalf, all managed by the partner themselves without having to contact Goodwood staff; a move that has saved Goodwood countless hours and headaches.
As the manuals are particularly text-heavy, we designed an easy to use interface that wouldn’t distract from the copy itself. A clean and foolproof navigation bar allows partners to quickly jump to other sections within the manual, whilst remaining true to the Goodwood brand.
We also ensured that the handbook header mimicked public-facing Goodwood websites to create brand consistency across all Goodwood touch points.
Having gone to tender for our online Event Manuals, Ascender were the only company that instantly got exactly what we were after, improved on it and could do it within budget. Working with Ascender for the last year has been extremely easy and our Partners have seen the benefits.
Caroline Isaac, Account Director for Client Services at Goodwood
The manuals have been a tremendous success. Client service enquiries have dropped significantly and Goodwood partners have been reportedly much happier using the new system than in past years.
With each handbook we continue to build on the success of the last, adding and refining the functionality and design to make them even easier to use for all Goodwood partners.
