London Steakhouse Co. asked us to design a label for a unique premium ketchup to serve with their sensational steaks and hand cut chips.
Founded in 2008, London Steakhouse Co. comprises two award-winning London based steakhouse restaurants co-owned by Marco Pierre White. Based in Chelsea and the City of London, the restaurants serve a mouth watering selection of steaks, grilled meat and fish.
Having seen our recent update of the Sussex Valley brand, London Steakhouse Co. asked us to design a label for a unique premium ketchup that they had developed to serve with their sensational steaks and hand cut chips.
As with all of our packaging projects, we kicked-off the design process with a collaborative creative workshop involving the entire team to generate as many ideas as possible.
Ketchup With A kick
From here we moved on to hand sketching concepts to quickly and time-efficiently explore both abstract and literal ideas that might suit the London Steakhouse Co. brand.
After sketching dozens of labels concepts, from retro and classical illustrations to a more modern, playful hand lettering styles, we settled on a classy vine tomato design, balanced with a touch of humour and a hint of its fiery ingredients: ‘Posh Ketchup – with a kick’.
Recipe For Success
With designs agreed upon, we specified a metallic silver substrate to print the labels on to. This allowed us to elevate the tomato vines out of the design with a premium metallic effect without the additional expense of hot foiling. To ensure the correct London Steakhouse Co.’s brand gold, we scatter printed dozens of different yellows to test how each would react with the substrate in both natural and artificial daylight. Finally, a clear matt lamination was added to help protect Posh Ketchup from general scuffs, scrapes and spills.
Ascender’s knowledge around the specifics of label printing was invaluable, liaising with the printer to ensure that there was no compromise to the design or quality of the end product
Since launch, London Steakhouse Co. have sold in excess of 10,000 bottles and have big plans for launching nationally across the United Kingdom.
